Class description
The class will provide tools to explore the physical and sensory aspects of our bodies. The structure is shaped from a warm-up inspired by somatic practices, anatomy, and martial arts, followed by floorwork elements seeking moments of (contact) improvisation. With the lens on the physical forces observed in the transfer of weight, balance, flow, and rhythmic dynamics, the aim is to find an autonomy of creation and identity in the relationship between the bodies. We are looking for playful moments to step out of our comfort zones. From individual to collective investigations, we activate our presence to generate an available body.
Level: some experience needed.
Biography
Jorge Bascuñan is a Brazilian Multidisciplinary Artist, Teacher, and Choreographer, currently based in Berlin. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, and he is certificated in Cinematography and Actor’s Direction both at his hometown, São Paulo. Since 2012 he is codirector of the ‘Baillistas Collective’ of Photography and Multi-art, and director of Ìdrima, a collective of performance and contemporary art. In 2016 he moved to Germany where he concluded the master’s program in contemporary dance education (MA CoDE, HfMDK, Germany). His dance training includes floor work, martial arts, contact improvisation, and dance theater. Bascuñan reveals his multidisciplinary experiments, mixing photography, video, drawing, sounds, and text with research on movement, questioning the meaning of a socially constructed body, focusing on translations of somatic practices, seeking to re-signify symbolic aspects of a contemporary corporeality.
