Living Inside the Instrument
Stimulating continuous whole body awareness, this class harnesses a specific presence and quality of body. Can dance be vital and lively, with an unlimited potential for exploring temporal and spatial dynamics? Beginning with a series of exercises inspired by The Feldenkrais Method and Release Work, the warm up is designed to relax the neuromuscular system and to open the body/mind to new movement potentials. Working with combinations, we will focus on concepts like the centering of energy, isolation of parts, or rhythm and coordination of the limbs. This class will challenge one's sense of phrasing, movement patterns, and quick decision-making. We won’t look for the perfect body shape or tone, but for an 'ever-present body', manifested through a clarity and efficiency of movement articulation.

Questions from TPRM:

Is this an improvisation class, a class where we learn phrases or both?
Definitely both: We will start on the floor, approaching the movement from a Feldenkrais perspective, followed by improvisational tasks where we will build an energetic and rhythmical dramaturgy (working with basic concepts that will become more complex as the days pass). Last part of the class will be phrases and combinations.

What kind of energetic dramaturgy can we expect in this class? Low to high in the first part; in the second part we will play with different states of energy. The idea is to recycle energy and be able to move at any speed without collapsing the structure or the breathing, so in the second part of the class we may work with material at a quick speed as well as continuous very slow speed. We will mostly finish with jumps and exercises more directed in the space - and travelling through space.
