In 2021, Eliane Roumie took part in dance curator Raffaele Irace's festival Solocoregrafico at Gallus Theatre. At the time, the jury praised her work ιντεκάλ (Intekál). For Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, this was a reason to get to know the choreographer and her work even better. With the support of the Goethe Institute, we are therefore offering the Pop-Up Residence extended for the first time. From 14.10. to 11.11. Eliane Roumie will be a guest in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main Region to immerse herself in the local dance scene and to network and exchange ideas with the actors. On 2.11. the choreographer will present her work in a showing at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm.
Description
Moving places, detaching from your roots, getting away. Emigrating in search of better conditions is a process of existential evolution. A constant process of uprooting and resettling. A transition.
Transition is not linear, neither it has one direction. It consists of various elements and is a mixture of experiences. ιντεκάλ انتقال (Intekál) is a solo piece influenced by my origins, Greece and Syria and is inspired by the story of a man -my father- who transitioned in the late 80's from one place to another. The work is based on the narration of Georges Roumié describing his relationship with his country of birth, Syria, and his current home, Greece. Narration was realized both in Arabic and Greek and served as the foundation of the piece.
